01

Choose the role before the sound

Action

Decide whether the bass should be sub-focused, rhythmic, aggressive, or wide. Then choose Sub Bass, Acid Bass, or Reese Bass for that role.

Why

The right engine reduces later correction.

02

Write fewer notes

Action

Place main notes near kick accents. Use two or three pitches before expanding the phrase.

Why

A simple bassline leaves room for drums and harmony.

03

Shape articulation and envelope

Action

Adjust attack, sustain, and release so the bass stops or carries at the right moment.

Why

Overlapping notes can blur the low end.

04

Balance against the kick

Action

Open the mixer and adjust levels first. Use EQ or compression only if an audible problem remains.

Why

Kick/bass conflict is often an arrangement or level problem before it is an effect problem.

CHECKLIST

Before finishing

  • The bass has a clear role.
  • Notes do not overlap unnecessarily.
  • Kick remains identifiable in dense sections.
